  Assam Repeals Muslim Marriages Act Assam Assam Repeals Muslim Marriages Act  24 Feb 2024 On 23rd February, 2024, Assam repealed the Muslim Marriages Act, 1935, paving the way for a Uniform Civil Code(UCC). Muslim marriages and divorces to be registered under Special Marriage Act, discontinuing use of the repealed Act. District commissioners to take custody of registration records from Muslim marriage registrars. Compensation of Rs. 2 lakh provided to each registrar for rehabilitation post-repeal.
